Q & A

Q:
You know those kids vitamins like flinstones or whatever, I know they are not the best for the kids but I have some so I will just finish what I have but I am wondering if there is a child vitamin that you recommend.

A:
Good question (sorry for taking so long to answer). Without going into too much detail I would say don't use those or give them to your child.

Some vitamins, namely vitamin C, B12, A, and E, are manufactured in China which has less than ideal safety regulations which is evident with the recent pet food scandel and reported instances of toxic food and toothpaste. That being said I would agree with Dr. Mercola that a vast majority of your vitamins and minerals should come from the food you eat. Like he says, You can’t “make up” for a poor diet by simply adding vitamin supplements.

It reminds me of the analogy of the two boats. Boat 1 is build with good strong wood and golden nails to hold the wood together. Boat 2 on the other hand is made with rotten, junk wood but is roughly held together by golden nails. Which boat will survive the turmoil out at sea? Boat 1 of course.

This is similar to our bodies. If we eat junk food, processed food (rotten wood), and very little fruit, vegetables, and protein but take a good multivitamin here and there (the golden nails) our bodies will be like that ship out at sea, not being able to resist the attacks of life. We need to build our bodies like Boat 1 with good "wood" i.e. food and then as extra "insurance" use the "golden nails" i.e. a multivitamin/mineral.

If you did want to take a multivitamin as insurance, I would suggest either:

Water or Coke?

I got this from a peer of mine Dax Moy in the UK at www.daxmoy.co.uk and I thought my readers would be interested in it.

Next time you have to decide between water and coke, remember this...

WATER

1. 75% of the UK population are chronically dehydrated. (Likely applies to half world population.) (I bet this would apply to North America.)

2. In 37% of all the UK population, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger. (I bet this would apply to North America.)

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?

COKE

1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.

3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Tyron's Soon-To-Be-Famous Vegetarian Dish

Watch out Rob Feenie (Vancouver's iron chef), Tyron's giving you a run for your money.

As requested by one of my clients, I'm posting the recipe for my soon-to-be-famous vegetarian dish.

Tyron's Vegetarian Dish:
-1 cup of mixed steamed veggies
-1/2 cup of organic brown rice or organic beans (soaked and cooked properly)
-1/4 of an avocado
-1/4 cup of almonds, walnuts or cashews (soaked and dry in an oven at a low temp)
-1-2 Tbsp of organic extra-virgin olive oil
-optional: 1 Tbsp of flaxseed or another seed of your choice

If you try it let me know what you think. It's simple, but good. Who said things had to be elaborate, time consuming, and complicated for things to taste good and be healthy?

Lose Weight While Sleeping!

Dr. Mark Hyman recently wrote an interesting piece on sleep and the importance of getting enough of it to help us lose weight and gain health.

He mentioned that sleep deprivation makes you fat -- AND leads to depression, pain, heart disease, diabetes, and much more.

Once patient of his in particular lost 50 pounds and lowered his blood pressure after sleeping throughout the night. His particular case involved having sleep apnea but once treated with a device to keep his airway open at night, he experienced those dramatic changes in his body.

You may not have sleep apnea however if you're like this individual and aren't sleeping adequately throughout the night, you're potentiall setting your body up for problems down the road.

Dr. Hyman also points out that when you are sleep deprived, your cortisol rises -- and so do all its harmful effects, including brain damage and dementia, weight gain, diabetes, heart attacks, high blood pressure, depression, osteoporosis, depressed immunity, and more.
