Artificial Sweeteners - Don't Be Deceive Your Body is Not Mocked

Below is an excellent article written by a friend of mine on the dangers of artificial sweeteners that I think you will benefit from. If you or a friend of yours drinks this stuff (diet pop or any sugar-free gums or product) send them this info. Until everyone is not drinking this stuff you MIGHT not hear me talking about it as much.

Artificial sweeteners are not a healthy substitute for sugar and they often cause people to eat more food and gain weight. When the body detects a sweet taste, it expects carbohydrates that contain nutrition, and when the gut finds no nutrition, the message is sent to the brain to eat more in order to get the nutrition needed.

The FDA has had more complaints about Aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal, Canderel, NatraSweet, Spoonfuls, DiabetiSweet) than any other food additive, and yet it is still on the GRAS list (Generally Regarded As Safe) despite its strong association with brain tumours and seizures.

It is a synthetic compound made up of Phenylalanine and Aspartic Acid held in a chemical bond by Methanol, which breaks down into Formic Acid, Formaldehyde and Diketopiperazine (DKP).

It is the DKP that is associated with brain tumours. Aspartame breaks down more quickly with heat, and as such, is worse in hot drinks, or in soda pop that may have been in the sun at some point in its journey to our fridges.

If you have ever tasted a diet drink that didn't taste sweet, you know the aspartame in it broke down into the above mentioned neurotoxins (nerve poisons). Some symptoms of aspartame toxicity include migraines, depression, seizures, attention deficit disorder, angry rages, joint pain, muscle spasm, and it can mimic diseases like MS, chronic fatigue syndrome, and fibromyalgia.

Symptoms like migraines may appear quickly in some people, while in others there may be no symptoms for some time. Once again, biochemical individuality plays a role in how quickly and severely people are affected.

If you or someone you care about has any of these symptoms, remove aspartame from the diet for four to six weeks before medical testing to see if the symptoms resolve, and so that the artificial sweetener won't cloud the diagnosis.

Once again, read labels, because aspartame is everywhere, including children's vitamins, cool aid type fruit drinks, diet soda pop, sugar free chewing gum, gelatin desserts, frozen desserts, fillings and toppings for baked goods, hot chocolate mixes, breath mints, yogurt, wine coolers, tea beverages, some flavoured bottled waters, some fibre cereals, cold remedies and other medications.

Sucralose, under the brand name of Splenda, is gaining in popularity as a substitute for sugar. Because this product is newer there is less research to look at, but what is there should give pause for thought.

It is advertised as being made from sugar, but that does not mean it is anything like sugar, just as water in no way resembles the oxygen and hydrogen from which it is made.

To make sucralose, three chlorine atoms are substituted for three oxygen-hydrogen groups on the sugar molecule turning it into a chlorocarbon. Chlorocarbons have been known to cause genetic, organ, immune and reproductive damage for some time, and they cause swelling of the liver as well as swelling and calcification of the kidneys. If you get any mid-back pain in the kidney area or bladder irritation after consuming Splenda, take it out of your diet immediately.

Choose healthful sweeteners like raw (unpasteurized) honey, organic maple syrup, Rapadura or stevia to sweeten your food if necessary.

Spilling the Beans on Soy

Just recently my mom showed me an article she found in The Globe and Mail on soy foods.

My initial reaction before reading it was that they're probably not going to say much, just the general politically correct stuff you normally here. You know, soy is a complete protein, its low in cholesterol (but as some of you may know cholesterol isn't bad, but in fact is good), contains fiber, high in isaflavones, good for the heart and lowers cholesterol, etc.

Once I read the article I was pleasantly surprised that a mainstream publication would write, not on the benefits of soy, but on the dangers. I've included a few of the points discussed in the article which I believe will not only benefit you, but surprise you as well.

-75 to 89 percent of soybeans grown in North America are genetically modified. GM soy is present in approximately 60 percent of processed foods - usually as filler or oil. Also soybeans are heavily laden with pesticides.

-115 degrees Celcius is the temperature to which soybeans are heated in the production of commercial soy milk in an attempt to remove trypsin inhibitors, but the phytate content remains largely intact. (Phytates block the absorption of essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, and copper in the intestinal tract.)

-5 is the equivalent number of birth-control pills a day that babies are fed exclusively on soy formula according to a British toxicologist's calculations. (Isaflavones, also known as phytoestrogens, produce estrogen-like effects in the body and have been linked to a number of cancers especially estrogen-related cancers.)

If you are going to eat soy, eat only organic (so its not GM and isn't laden with pesticides), fermented soy such as miso, tempeh, or natto.

How to Cook Beans Without Having the Unfriendly Gas Show Up

Please forward this email to anyone you think it will help.


If you want to eliminate or at least lessen the amount of gas you get when you eat beans try this.

Step 1: Soak your beans in water and unpasteurized apple cider vinegar for at least 24 hours, preferably 36. 1 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar for every 1 cup of beans.

Step 2: Rinse the beans thoroughly and place in a stainless steel pot with enough water to cover beans.

Step 3: Bring beans to a boil then set a timer for 5 minutes and leave it boiling for that time.

Step 4: Dump out water and again rinse beans thoroughly and clean pot.

Step 5: Place beans back in pot and cover with new water.

Step 6: Bring to a boil then turn it to low and let it simmer for 45-60 minutes or until beans are soft and at your liking. Add sea salt.

Step 7 (optional): Add garlic and any other flavourings you'd like.

Step 8: Enjoy your beans in a gas-free environment!

While You Are Trying to Lose, You May Gain

A world renowned fat loss expert, Alwyn Cosgrove, wrote an interesting write up on what to expect with your weight when you start building muscle and losing fat. Remember that how you look and feel, and how much you weigh are not necessarily related at all.
I thought you'd all be interested as its something I hear quite often. Any questions please ask.

This weekend I got on a scale at a friend's house (I don't own one) and much to my disappointment, the numbers haven't budged all that much since my last weigh in several months ago. Now, my clothes fit better, I'm in better shape than I've perhaps EVER been in, I know muscle weighs more than fat, I look GREAT, etc...but those numbers scream overweight to me. They make me feel like I've made no progress at all

First off - your clothes "fit better", you're "in better shape than you've ever been in" and you "look GREAT"... but you're disappointed solely because the bathroom scale didn't go down "All that much".

Here's something we tell clients: If we had a magic fat loss machine -- that you stepped in and pushed a button and you came out looking EXACTLY how you've always dreamed of looking and feeling - the exact dress or pant size you wanted, with the definition and muscle tone you want, at the bodyfat percentage you want - you can see your abs (if that's what you want) etc etc. Would you be interested? Of course you would!!

But what if the side effect of the fat loss machine is that it increased bone density and muscle density by 100%. So while you looked and felt better than you've ever felt before -- the scale is 50lbs higher than it's ever been. So for example a 150lb-er would come out looking amazing, but weighing 200lbs...Would that number on the scale make you not want the other results?

Now what if the machine did the reverse - you look exactly the same as you've always done, but you'd weigh 50lbs less? Would you be happy with that? Probably not right?

Just understand that how you look and feel, and how much you weigh are not necessarily related at all.The picture on the left shows the difference in size between five pounds of fat (top) and five pounds of muscle (bottom). You can see that it's a pretty big size difference.

If you add ten pounds of muscle and lose ten pounds of fat -- you're going to look like you lost 20lbs.

But the scale won't move.

Medical Doctors Are Seeing The Light On Alternative Cancer Treatments

A lady from my church (thank you Sandy) sent me a rather interesting report from John Hopkins University stating that doctors there are starting to agree that there are alternatives to cancer treatment other than chemotherapy. Thank you Lord!

I find this quite interesting as for years and years the medical community as a whole (other than a few here and there) disregarded alternative treatments and deemed those physicians that used them as quacks!

I've attached the report below. Do give it a read despite it being a bit long as I believe you will really learn something...even if its just the last point which scores and scores of people do.

Cancer Update from John Hopkins

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion.When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.

3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply CANCER CELLS FEED ON:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like Nutrasweet, Equal,Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts.Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soya milk cancer cells are being starved. (Tyron's comment: I don't recommend soya milk consumption).

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork.Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites,which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice(most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water- best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor ssence, Essiac,anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells.Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment.Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.


PLEASE READ (Tyron's comment: I don't believe anyone should use a microwave due to the fact that it nukes your food and kill 97% of the antioxidants and 74-87% of the healthy polyphenols (good plant chemicals) however if you do please follow the directions below.)

1. No plastic containers in micro.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave. Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons. Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked,the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

Can Doing Intervals Burn Belly Fat?

According to an Australian fat loss expert, Professor Steve Boucher, he says that "high intensity intermittent exercise (i.e. intervals) may result in greater fat loss in the abdomen".

Basically, intervals burn stomach fat FIRST, over all other sources of fat on the body. Nothing else, not crunches, nor cardio, has ever been shown to result in stomach fat spot reduction.

This is big news. If you want to lose belly fat, you have to be doing intervals.

Choose any piece of cardio equipment (preferably an upright stationary bike or treadmill) and warm-up for 3 minutes unless you've already done a strength workout before hand. After warming up, increase the intensity (subjective 8 out of 10 level of intensity) so that you are able to maintain that level for 60 seconds (if on the bike it should feel like you're peddling through mud). Then drop the intensity back down to a subjective 3 out of 10 level of intensity for 120 seconds. To start perform that cycle 3 times.

Remember losing fat doesn't have to be impossible, but it will require to give some effort. As my mom used to say "Anything in life worth getting is hard to get".

I'm soaking my nuts right now I forgot how you said to cook them, is it at very low temperature and how long?

Hey Sandy,

Great question. Soak them for at least 8-12 hours in water with a teaspoon or more of sea salt, preferably sea salt not normal table salt. Then strain and rinse them thoroughly. Place them on a big cookie sheet with them spread out. Place in the oven at about 150-200 degrees Fahrenheit for about 8-10 hours or until they are crispy but not burnt or starting to have a burnt taste.

Ideally, this should be done with all nuts, seeds and legumes and beans except flaxseed which doesn't soak very well. Most seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, sesame, etc) will sprout quite nicely thus making them easier to digest and increase the nutrient profile. To sprout, perform same process as above however before putting them in the oven, continue rinsing them periodically throughout the day (2-3 times) until sprouts are visable. Depending on the seed, it may take 2-3 days to sprout. Afterwards, place them on a cookie sheet as above.
